Ticks Are a Growing Problem in Maine

If you spend time outside, you've probably noticed that ticks are more common than ever.

Ticks are often found in tall grass, brush, wooded edges, and around landscaping. They can attach to people and pets and may carry diseases.

I'm Dave with King Pest Solutions, and I help homeowners throughout Central Maine and beyond reduce tick activity around their properties.

Where Ticks Hide

Ticks are most commonly found in:

  • Tall grass
  • Wooded areas
  • Leaf piles
  • Brush and overgrown landscaping
  • Yard edges near woods

Many people assume ticks are only found deep in the woods, but I often find them surprisingly close to homes.

Signs Your Property Has Tick Activity

You may have a tick problem if:

  • Family members find ticks after being outdoors
  • Pets frequently bring ticks inside
  • Your yard borders wooded areas
  • You have thick brush or leaf litter around the property

Why Tick Control Matters

Ticks are more than just a nuisance.

Reducing tick populations around your property can help lower the risk of tick encounters for your family and pets.

How I Treat Tick Problems

I focus on treating the areas where ticks live and travel.

My approach may include:

  • Identifying high-risk areas
  • Treating wooded edges and brush
  • Targeting common tick habitats
  • Providing recommendations to reduce future activity

Ticks can become active as soon as temperatures begin warming in the spring and remain active into the fall.

Yes. Ticks often live in grass, brush, leaf litter, and shaded areas.

No. Many ticks are found near homes, especially along wooded edges.

No treatment eliminates every tick, but treatments can significantly reduce tick activity. I typically recommend monthly treatments when ticks are most active.

Yes. The products I use are applied with the safety of your family and pets in mind. After treatment, you'll simply need to stay off the treated areas until everything has dried, which is typically just a few hours.
